Wild nature, quiet villages and open landscapes in Northern Spain
Cumbres de Lores sits in the Palencia mountains, one of the least crowded natural regions in Spain. The area around the house is defined by wide valleys, forests, rivers and mountain peaks — a place where nature is still largely untouched.
This part of Northern Spain — the green, unspoilt north often called Green Spain — is known for its quiet villages, Romanesque heritage and access to some of the most scenic landscapes between Cantabria and the Picos de Europa. From a house designed for unhurried returns, the walking starts at the door.
Lores keeps a calm that is hard to find today. No queues, no noise, no light pollution to take depth out of the sky. Just paths leading out of the village, viewpoints, forests and the feeling of being somewhere where everything happens at a different pace.

We are inside the Fuentes Carrionas y Fuente Cobre Natural Park. Beech and oak forests, mountain meadows and native wildlife in a landscape that keeps its original rhythm — slow rural travel where each season is lived without hurry.
Cumbres de Lores sits on the border with Cantabria and the Liébana valley. Potes, Fuente Dé and the Picos de Europa are less than an hour's drive away.

Good to know
This is just a starting point. Once you book, we are happy to recommend more routes, places to visit and local plans depending on the season and the kind of stay you have in mind.
This part of Northern Spain is not the same in April as it is in November. Each season has its own light, its own pace and its own way of staying with you.
Light returns earlier, the beech forests turn fresh green and the meadows recover their colour. Days for unhurried walks along the Senda del Pisuerga, with the mountains still cool in the background.
No queues, no beach tourism. Nights are cool even in August and, when darkness falls, the Milky Way appears effortlessly. Twenty minutes away, the Mirador de Piedrasluengas (1,350 m) is a reference point for stargazing in the region. The Perseids meteor shower in mid-August turns it into a natural observatory.
Oaks and beeches in the Hayedo de Tosande turn red and ochre. Mornings smell of damp earth and afternoons stretch by the fire. New moons in autumn are still among the best dates for stargazing.
When snow covers the area around Lores, the house becomes even more of a refuge. Alto Campoo is an hour away to round off the day on the slopes, before returning to the four-sided central fireplace and a long evening indoors.
