Things to see and do
in the Palencia Mountains from Lores

Nature, Romanesque heritage and mountain villages

The Area

A landscape that always offers
a different version of the mountain

Around Cumbres de Lores, the landscape changes with every season while keeping what matters most: quiet, space and nature. Beech and oak woods, mountain meadows, stone villages and rivers shape a setting that invites you to slow down from the moment you arrive.

Lores lies in La Pernía, one of the municipalities within Montaña Palentina Natural Park, a landscape of forests, valleys and Romanesque heritage between northern Palencia and neighbouring Liébana. It all begins from a house designed for unhurried returns.

Lores has a sense of calm that is increasingly difficult to find. There are paths leading out from the village, viewpoints, woodland and the feeling of being somewhere where everything happens at a different pace.

It is a place for unhurried walks, stopping to take in the landscape, looking for mushrooms in season or simply breathing mountain air and letting the day unfold. Here, being outdoors is not another activity: it is part of the setting.

Through the year

The landscape changes.
So does the experience

This part of Northern Spain is not the same in April as it is in November. Each season has its own light, its own pace and its own way of staying with you.

Spring

Mountains coming back to life

Light returns earlier, the beech forests turn fresh green and the meadows recover their colour. Days for unhurried walks along the Senda del Pisuerga, with the mountains still cool in the background.

Summer

Quiet summer

Long summer days are made for walking, exploring the villages of La Pernía or heading to Ruesga Reservoir for a few hours by the water and a refreshing swim in the middle of nature. As evening approaches, Piedrasluengas Viewpoint opens onto one of the great panoramas of the area and, on August nights, the Perseids provide another reason to look up at the sky.

Autumn

Slow autumn

Oak and beech woods change from green to shades of red and ochre. It is also the season of the red deer rut and one of the times of year most anticipated by people who enjoy looking for wild mushrooms. The mushroom season, autumn woodland and cool mornings make these months one of the most distinctive times to discover the Palencia Mountains.

Mushroom picking is regulated in some areas, so it is important to check the permits and conditions for each season before setting out.

Winter

Winter by the fire

When snow covers the area around Lores, the house becomes even more of a refuge. Alto Campoo is an hour away to round off the day on the slopes, before returning to the four-sided central fireplace and a long evening indoors.
